Getting started with Värn

From account to your first security assessment in a few minutes.

Värn watches what is visible from the outside: your domains, websites and email settings. You do not need to install anything, and Värn never gets access to your internal systems. Here is how to get started.

Create an account

Create an account with your work address and confirm the email address using the link you receive.

Create your organisation

The organisation holds your assets, findings and reports. Adding your company registration number is a good idea – it is used in the reports. You automatically get a 30-day trial of the Business plan.

Add your domain

Go to Assets → Add domain and enter the registered domain, for example example.com. Subdomains such as www.example.com are added after verification.

Verify ownership

Publish the TXT record shown in Värn with your DNS provider and click Check now. See Verify domain ownership for details.

Get your first assessment

Once the domain is verified, the first scan runs automatically. After a minute or so, the security posture, findings and recommended fixes appear on the overview.

Invite colleagues

Under Settings → Members, administrators invite colleagues and choose their role. An invitation is valid for seven days and can only be used by the email address it was sent to. Read more in Roles and permissions.

A good first session

  1. Add the websites that matter most to the business, for example www, the web shop and the customer portal.
  2. Go through the findings with severity Critical and High first – they are shown at the top of the overview.
  3. Give every finding an owner, or send the remediation steps to your IT partner.
  4. Turn on two-step verification for your own account.
  5. Create a security report as a baseline – it is stored unchanged and makes a good point of comparison.

No domain verified yet?

The security posture shows as Not assessed until at least one asset has been assessed. Värn never makes up a grade without evidence.

Language

The Värn app is available in English and Swedish. You can switch language at any time from the menu in the app.
